When Do You Need New Tires?
All vehicles will require new tires. Most experts recommend replacing your tires every five to six years, even if they appear to have adequate tread depth and no visible damage. This is because the rubber can deteriorate over time, affecting the tires’ performance and integrity. However, there are specific scenarios in which you will need new tires, even within this recommended timeframe. The first is when the tread depth of your tires reaches a certain level. The minimum tread depth requirement for most tires is 2/32 of an inch. Though it’s suggested to replace your tires when the tread depth reaches 4/32 of an inch or less to ensure adequate traction and handling in wet or slippery conditions. The second instance when you will need new tires is when damage that can’t be safely repaired occurs. For example, punctures or damage to the shoulder or sidewall will require tire replacement. If the injuries are close or if the repair overlaps with another repair, the tire must be replaced.
